Download the Gold Coast Travel App: It is recommended to download Translink that allows you to plan your route by using the Journey Planner function.
Bus
The most common way to get around the Gold Coast by public transport is by bus. The bus stop is at the front of Bond University campus and will take you to Robina Town Centre, the local mall with shopping, restaurants, cinema, medical center, and entertainment. It will also take you to Burleigh Beach or Broadbeach. The buses also run up and down the Gold Coast Highway which runs parallel to the entire Gold Coast coastline. The bus will get you to most places in the city. The local bus company is Kinetic. You can find more information on the local buses here - https://www.wearekinetic.com/au/gold-coast
The Translink website has timetables and bus routes available for you to plan your trip: Google Maps can also be helpful, but is less accurate. Find the timetable at - https://translink.com.au/plan-your-journey
Three ways to pay:
- Once you have your Student Card you will be able to get a Student GO Card (Concession travel card) which you can top up with funds and tap to get on and off the bus, tram (light rail) and train.
- Tap on and off with your credit card (pay full fee).
- Buy a paper ticket at the kiosks or counter (only available at some stations).
Light Rail (Tram) G:Link
The light rail (tram) runs from Broadbeach through to Surfers Paradise and beyond and can also take you to the heavy rail line that will take you all the way to Brisbane city.
QLD RAIL
The train line won’t get you up and down the coastline of the Gold Coast. However the most southern train station on the Gold Coast is Varsity Lakes train station which is about 5 mins drive from Bond University campus. This train line will take you all the way to Brisbane city. To find this service click here.
Alternative Modes of Transportation
Uber and Shebah (women-only drivers) are available and operating on the Gold Coast. Gold Coast taxis can also be booked by phoning 131 008.
Bikes
A lot of students opt to buy a second-hand bicycle from Facebook Marketplace. A bike will get you to the beach from Bond University campus in about 15 to 20 minutes. Please be sure to wear a helmet, travel only on bike paths and follow road rules.
The local council also offers e-bikes to use across the city. More information on Lyme e-bikes can be found here.

Trains
Travel by rail in Australia is fast and reliable, but is not the cheapest option. Queensland has two types of trains: heavy rail (between cities and regional towns) and the light rail (trams) system which gets you around parts of the city.
